Lesson planning
In our recent class, we explored how lesson planning mirrors life planning.
We began by reflecting on how we envisioned our lives at 18 and whether we've stayed true to those plans or taken unexpected paths. This reflection set the stage for understanding the importance of balance in both life and teaching.
Planning is essential, it gives direction and ensures we cover the necessary ground. However, in life and in the classroom, too much planning can be restrictive, while too little can lead to chaos. The key is finding a balance: a lesson plan that is detailed enough to guide us but flexible enough to adapt when needed.
We discussed when it’s appropriate to deviate from a lesson plan, such as during “Magic Moments” of spontaneous learning or when unforeseen issues arise. Knowing when to stick to the plan and when to be flexible is what makes a teacher reliable and effective.
In the end, the best plans are those that leave room for the unexpected, allowing us to navigate the dynamic realities of teaching and life.
