Describing learners
Hi, glad to have you back. Today's topic is describing learners.
We talked about this in vocaroo but I will explain a little bit more. So first there are some points we should consider because capturing the essence of our learners involves examining various dimensions:
Children
Up to around 9 or 10 years old, these learners absorb meaning even without grasping individual words, often learning indirectly. Their understanding stems from sensory experiences, making grammar concepts challenging. They thrive on enthusiasm and crave individual attention, often having limited attention spans.
Adolescents
Typically viewed as challenging, they thrive when they see the purpose behind an activity. They seek identity and approval, mostly from peers, and can become staunch supporters of teachers they connect with.
Adults
Engage with abstract ideas, drawing from a wealth of life experiences. They bring expectations to their learning process, often demonstrating discipline and a nuanced understanding of what they learn.
Embracing Multiple Intelligences, Learning Styles (VARK – KOLB), and recognizing the traits of good learners fosters inclusive education.
Classifying learners as Basic, Independent, or Proficient users helps tailor instruction to their proficiency.

Intrinsic motivation springs from within, while extrinsic motivation stems from external factors. Various elements, including personal goals, societal influences, peer dynamics, and curiosity, can fuel motivation.

Thank you for your entry, Elsie!
